The digital edition of Sam's Journey includes:

Note for cartridge versions: the cartridge files are currently emulated only by VICE 3.1+. They cannot be used with an EasyFlash cartridge or 1541 Ultimate. For the disk versions, these limitations do not apply.

Although Sam is quite small, he can run very fast and jump even higher. That's why the camera has to hurry up and keep track, no matter where he's going!

Sam has a variety of basic moves. While running and jumping are obvious skills, his ability to climb makes him able to reach new heights. And with his free diving skill, he can explore the underwater passages of the deep sea.

The world of Sam's Journey is not only a visual one. Every scenery that Sam traverses on his journey comes with its own unique song that emphasizes the location's atmosphere.

I bought the game some time ago, I will write briefly it is a phenomenon on a global scale. Very much respect for the Makers of Sam. Never in my life would I have thought that a game so shocking in every respect would be created on the C64! I recommend this title to everyone.

Review:

Most amazing C64 game EVER! It's a very polished jump-and-run, with a very modern design approach - no lives to be lost, but instead checkpoints everywhere. The focus is on exploring the levels, as it should be. The controls are tight, and considering the joystick has only one button, it's quite miraculous how well they managed to implement all the special moves.

With the Mario-style overworld map, each level can be re-played, to discover new hidden areas, using the new powers Sam collects. The replay value is huge, and the amount of time to complete the thousands of screens massive.

The graphics, sounds and music are all top-notch too, including a cute intro sequence, wonderful sprite animations and colorful backgrounds.

This is the first C64 game in a long, long time that managed to actually make me want to play it again, more than some modern games I'm currently playing. It's a true masterpiece, and deserves every bit of praise it gets. I just wish I could give it 10 stars out of 5...

Review:

Läuft nun auch am SD2IEC einwandfrei, wenn man diese Hardware auf die neueste Firmware aktualisiert. Der Sam-Loader wurde jetzt in die Firmware mit integriert. Keinerlei Probleme geschwindigkeitsmäßig, auch nicht bei den Kostümwechseln der Sam Figur.

Sams Journey ist für mich die neue Referenz in Sachen Jump n Run auf dem C64!
Butterweiches Scrolling in alle Richtungen, Riesige Level, kunterbunte Grafik, Ohrwurm Musik und das alles gepaart mit einem Helden der einen Sofort ans Herz wächst und einem Level Design das selbst nach dem Durchspielen zu immer neuen runden einläd.

Wer sich dieses Spiel entgehen lässt, wird nie wissen, zu was sein C64 in der Lage ist. ( z.b. Riesige Endbosse mit einzigartige Animierten Manövern, Musik und SFX gleichzeitig und und und )

Ein Must Have !!!!

Review:

It's obvious to me there's a lot of love in this title for the venerable C= 64. Sadly, I no longer have the hardware, but I am able to play this just fine with VICE. The digital download including the startup (.bat) file for the cartridge file is a huge plus too, as I'm not a VICE guru.

Controls seem tight, pace isn't too frenetic which is a good thing for me, being as my reflexes aren't what they used to be.

The artwork is great, level design is good, I know there are places I haven't figured out how to access, which keeps me wondering and going back to see if I can figure it out.

The checkpoint system is a great addition, and they seem to be well placed in terms of level progression.

All in all, a very satisfying title.
