Wireless internet is now possible also on the C64. Leif Bloomquist’s Commodore Wifi Modem emulates a C64 modem and is therefore compatible to the Wave and older modem software. It is not compatible to programs that expect an RR-Net. The module plugs into the user port.
A new and fine game for the Protovision 4 Player Interface was released recently: Jam It is a basketball simulation game in the style of epic sports games. The game features a clever basketball steering and stunning CPU players that you can compete against if you do not have 4 real players at hand.
Our musician Joachim "Yogibear" Wijnhoven together with Roland Hermans has created the loader tune for Jam It!
Once you’re through with reading the magazine, go to your C64 and grab the Reset magazine’s „Mix-i-disk„, because J&F Publishing and Protovision have released Blocks&Monsters now as freeware!
Blocks is a typical puzzle game in the style of Joshua (a little similar to Sokoban) with great design and a brilliant soundtrack and monsters is a nice pac man clone.
The download is all free and for now available only and exclusively through the Reset Magazine homepage. Have fun! 😉
Scene news: Protovision supports Back in Time Live 2015 as corporate sponsor
29.03.2015
Following the success of the kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, a real Commodore C64 oriented live concert will be held on June 20, 2015. At this time the city of Brighton will turn into a mekka for all audiophile C64 friends.
Prior to the concert itself you might come to meet a few musical C64 legends like Ben Daglish, Chris Hülsbeck or Matt Gray in one of the surrounding pubs for a cold beer. 🙂
Scene news: Honey Bee – Enhanced Version – progress update by TND
28.03.2015
After the 16KB cartridge version of Honey Bee Redux was released (ranked #15 at RGCD Cartridge Competition 2014), Richard/TND is now working on a enhanced version of Honey Bee. This enhanced version will consist of a loading picture, high score table, a better new front end presentation, intro sequence, outro sequence, a bonus stage and maybe more.
By the way: Protovision’s musical maestro Joachim Wijnhoven (Yogibear) composed the thumping soundtrack and Protovision’s pixel artist Johan Janssen (JSL) created a stylish logo and a wonderful picture for the enhanced version of Honey Bee.
Keep watching TND’s blog to find out what happens next. 🙂
It’s still uncomfortable, windy and cold outside – the ideal wheather to take a short walk to a kiosk around the corner, get a hot coffee to go along with the current issue #33 of Retro magazine, and, back at home, sip the hot brew and enjoy a well-written review of Leisure Suit Leo 2.
When you’re done sipping and reading Retro magazine from front to back, it’s time to turn on your 64 and load Scene World #24. The current issue of the popular English disk magazine offers some comprehensive articles including an interview with none other than Volker Rust, who writes about his beginnings on the C64 and the upcoming blockbusters from Out of Order Softworks (spoilers ahead! 🙂 ).
Eco (Raik Picheta) is one of the musicians for the game Leisure Suit Leo 2.
One of this tunes is called ‚Karibik‘ and he has released an remix of this tune in October 2014. Listen and rate it here: http://www.remix64.com/track/eco/karibik/
While the English version is technically the same as the original one from 1997, it comes with a manual in book form packed in a stylish box which makes it an ideal holiday gift for collectors of gaming treasures on the C64.
Buyers of the German version also get a remastered edition of the game, plus an extra disk with the rare first installment.
Scene news: Race: tiny racing game for up to 8 players
17.12.2014
As part of the RGCD 16k game competition #4, a small but nice little racing game called „Race“ was released. Of course it supports our Protovision 4 Player Interface! It also supports the multiplayer adapter „Inception“.
Scene news: Our latest web-discoveries concerning D42 and Leo 2
03.10.2014
Spanish retro-blog “Commodore Plus” has published two extensive reviews of the D42 – Adventure System and Leisure Suit Leo 2. Those of you who know some Spanish might want to have a look. And for those who refuse to learn any foreign languages: There are some photos and screenshots, too. 🙂
Impatient folks can fast forward to minute 10:47 where you can see the D42 Adventure System presented to you by our very own, suit-clad Out of Order expert Volker Rust. You can catch the occasional glimpse at Leisure Suit Leo 2, too.
The last time the folks at Virtual Dimension visited us on the spot was back in 2003 was at Vision Party. Those of you who want to indulge in more memories should stop by our press column and browse through reviews and videos.
Reset is a free „C64 only“ PDF magazine with a focus on gaming.
On a whopping number of 78 pages you can find, for example, up-to-date test for…
Commando Arcade from the Group Nostalgia – a surprise hit that should be part of any C64 game collection!
Guns & Ghosts from the creative duo of Georg „Endurion“ Rottensteiner and Trevor „Smila“ Storey, which you can obtain at Psytronik or RGCD and which we have already warmly recommended in a previous Protovision newsletter.
Bellringer III from Geir Straume, which has an 80’s charm and a gameplay in the tradition of hunchback.
As well, our 4 Player compilation (that has been sold out in the meantime) was tested extensively on the latest Amiga User Group (#CommodoreClub) meeting in Melbourne.
Sold out? Yes. But do not worry. You can still get the games individually as downloads (Bomb Mania, Hockey Mania, Team Patrol) or even as limited edition (Tanks 3000) from our shop.

Leif Bloomquist released his game Vortex 2 for the testing phase. This game can use the internet to play against another person. In the game you can fly with your ship and shoot at the enemy, but nothing will happen at this stage in the development of the game. The game is auto-updating. You need an RR-Net or compatible cartridge (64NIC+, FB-Net, etc) for your C64 or you can use the VICE emulator. For more informations visit his blog.
In addition to the C64, Alex operates with TAXIM, a dark electro and experimental project and has already released some CD’s.
Now TAXIM is back in top form and shows that SID sounds can be partly Cinematic music and Neoclassic elements revalue the previous works.
Reset #03 also featuring the first reviews of Darkness, Rocket Smash EX and Powerglove (retail edition). Also in this issue – Ray Carlsen does a repair by remote control, Sam Dyer discusses his new C64 book and Frank Gasking returns with another Games That Weren’t.
The Hungarian group Singular has released a new version of FunkPaint. The tool offered a large number of functionalities in the past already, including support for three mouse buttons and new – support for the scrollwheel – if used with the Micromys-adapter. But the tool also supports the Amiga mouse, e.g. plugged into the 4 player interface at port three. It uses all the RAM extensions you could think of (REU, RR-RAM, Superram, GeoRam, IDE64/swap files).
The final Datastorm party (February/Gothenburg-Sweden) sparked the last time a veritable explosion of high-quality demos, images, and music for the C64.
Fairlight, Offence and Prosonix. Softwareproductions in the merge of these legendary groups represent the finest demo quality and achieve regularity top rankings on various demoparties – so is also their latest demo „We Are All Connected„. This masterpiece scored the first place and as a matter of course once again Protovision was (elaborately staged) greeted.
Congratulations to the won C64 demo competition, we thank and salute hereby back and we love you!
In any case, you have to have see and hear the other productions of this fantastic party – this is of course done best on a real C64! 🙂
Our friends in RGCD and Psytronik have another new release in store.
The Vice Squad is all about clearing the streets of criminal foes. The shoot and drive game features an interesting weapon system and knows to impress with its fine ingame graphics and brilliant title music.
chip.de’s german article „Auf dem Index: Die frühen Pixel-Schlachten“ („Indexed Games: The Early Pixel Battles“) mentions Protovision – albeit not in the context of the article’s main focus (violent games), but as a source for new and fresh C64 games.
