In 2017, The 8-Bit Guy released Planet X2, the first realtime strategy game for the C64. Planet X2 was the best selling C64 game of that year (not Sam's Journey!).

We have teamed up with The 8-Bit Guy to present Planet X2.1, an enhanced version of the original game that that contains new features, such as:

a completely overhauled codebase resulting in a number of game play improvements
the game now runs completely from cartridge
additional playfields - now counting 14 maps
8 selectable in-game tunes
simultaneous in-game music and sound effects
new graphics from our pixel magician John Henderson (known for his artwork in The Wild Wood)
an achievement system, graphically represented by 42 different medals
achievements saved to cartridge

Review:

It's a truly excellent game.
Planet X reminds me of two games I loved: Red Alert and StarCraft.
There are plenty of maps, and the game is well-designed. It's impressive that a game like this can run on my good old C64.

I hope a sequel or an expansion is released in the future.

I highly recommend it!

Absolutely amazing game. Great job porting it to a cartridge and even expanding the soundtracks, sounds, maps and graphics of the original while maintaining the game gameplay and feel of the game. Must have for Commodore 64 enthousiasts!

Ein fast perfektes Echtzeitstrategiespiel für den C64:

Das Spiel kommt in gewohnt professioneller Aufmachung daher. Diesmal hat mir allerdings die Zugabe nicht so gut gefallen. Das Aufziehauto ist zwar noch passend zum Spiel, ich hätte mir aber etwas Originelleres gewünscht. Aber ich will nicht die Beigabe bewerten, sondern das Spiel.
Ich habe das Spiel auf Modul und es ist natürlich sofort startklar. Der Auswahlbildschirm sieht schickt aus und ist funktional. Ich habe bisher zwei Karten „durchgespielt“ und muss sagen, dass die Steuerung über die Tastatur sehr gut von der Hand geht.
Der Coder hat es einerseits möglich gemacht über die Pfeiltasten zu steuern, aber auch für WASD. Sehr gut gelöst.
Die KI des Gegners ist natürlich eher rudimentär, aber die Gegner Schaaren stellen einen am Ende doch vor Herausforderungen. Das Zerstören der feindlichen Basis ist eine angenehme und spaßige Herausforderung.
Das Spiel macht richtig Laune. Einziges Manko: Das Brückenbauen. Die Baumaschinen können wir Teilstück für Teilstück fertig stellen und das dauert sehr lange und kostet unnötig nerven. Wenn man bedenkt, wie gut das Spiel sonst von der Hand geht, so wäre hier eine andere Lösung besser.
Nichtsdestotrotz möchte ich dieses Spiel jedem C64 Fan ans Herz legen, da es das erste eingängige Echtzeitstrategiespiel ist, das diesen Namen verdient.
Lustig: Man kann Trophäen freischalten.
